The Committee.

Isleham Under Fives Association is a parent-led UK registered charity – No. 294978. The committee has overall responsibility for all aspects of running the setting; however, the day to day running of the pre-school is delegated to the manager.

The committee can be made up of parents, grandparents and community members who are elected to take on
key roles on a voluntary basis to ensure a smooth, consistent and secure service. There must be at least 5 members and up to 12, based on our constitution, which is the legal document we follow, and there are 3 officers: Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. Without people to fill these positions the pre-school is not able to run!

The committee has overall responsibility for:

  • Safeguarding our children

  • Financial management

  • Staff recruitment and management

  • Liaising with Ofsted and other relevant bodies

  • Ensuring all policies and procedures are in line with the national standards

  • Parental engagement

  • Fundraising

The committee & manager meet on a regular basis to discuss the above and any other matters that have arisen.

Without a committee, the pre-school would have to close, regardless of finances or pupil numbers, so it is vital we attract new members each year. Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) is held each year and is open to all parents, grandparents of the children who attend the pre-school. At the AGM we look back over the previous year’s activities and shape the coming year’s plan in collaboration with parents and staff. We also use the AGM to elect new members onto the committee, although new members can join at any time.

Being a committee member is a unique opportunity to get involved with your child’s learning and, although unpaid, is a valuable addition to your CV. Previous committee members are available to help ‘learn the ropes’ and there is comprehensive online help from the EYA (Early Years Alliance) to guide you every step of the way. Support is also provided through the local Council who are responsible for keeping us all up-to-date with any required changes in government policy.  Additionally, it is also a nice way to get to know other parents and be involved in the community.

If you are interested in joining the committee (or becoming a general volunteer, helping at events, cake making etc.) and would like to know more about what is involved, just speak to any staff or committee member.
